Lexmark Toner Surgery

So I came across a user that bought toner a couple years ago when their department had some extra funds. What I didn't know was the toner ordered was for another Lexmark printer. :-/

The toner tanks were Identical. Down to the markings in the plastic. I noticed the only difference was the label affixed and the tiny little chip on the underside.

I had the brilliant idea to gently pry off the "chip" on the spent toner. (No use trying it on an unused cartridge) to my surprise it came off with almost no issue. I repeated the same on the new cartridge and BOOM! They now have a full toner cartridge!

The printer still shows its low but it prints perfectly. I told them to watch it and let me know if they come across any issues with print quality. Its been over a month and so far its working spectacularly.

Just thought I would share in case anyone came across this in their environment.

Almost certain that lexmark will look down on this. But hey all the cartridges are the same they just put different identifying lil chips on them. ( Please Excuse my non tech terms on the identifying lil chip thingys)
